Join Rootpile

Welcome Home

Whether you're a seasoned Burner or preparing for your very first trip to Black Rock City, we're excited you're considering joining Rootpile.

We're a community built around live music, shared meals, participation, and creating unforgettable experiences together. Every camper helps build the camp, and every camper helps make the magic happen.

If that sounds like your kind of adventure, we'd love to have you.

Who We're Looking For

Rootpile is made up of people from all walks of life, but they all have one thing in common—they show up ready to contribute.

We're always looking for:

  • Musicians

  • Dancers

  • Bartenders

  • Builders

  • Electricians

  • Kitchen volunteers

  • Camp organizers

  • Artists

  • First-time Burners with a great attitude

  • Returning Burners who love live music and community

You don't need special skills to join Rootpile. The most valuable thing you can bring is a willingness to participate.

What We Expect From Camp Members

Burning Man is built on participation, and Rootpile is no different.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to be a musician?

Not at all. While music is at the heart of Rootpile, many of our campers never step on stage. Builders, cooks, bartenders, organizers, artists, dancers, and enthusiastic community members are all essential parts of camp.

Is Rootpile a good camp for first-time Burners?

Absolutely. We enjoy helping first-time Burners have a successful and memorable experience while encouraging participation and self-reliance.

Do I need an RV?

No. Many campers stay in tents, while others bring vans, trailers, or RVs. We'll help you determine what setup works best for you.

Do I have to volunteer?

Yes. Every camper contributes in some way. Volunteer shifts are an important part of keeping Rootpile running smoothly throughout the week.

Can I bring my own instrument?

Please do! We love spontaneous jam sessions and encourage campers to bring instruments they'd enjoy playing on playa.

What if I don't know anyone?

That's one of the best reasons to join a theme camp. By the end of the week, you'll have shared meals, worked shifts, danced, laughed, and built something incredible alongside dozens of new friends.
